Rusizi inmates embrace Ndi Umunyarwanda Initiative

Prisoners at the Cyangugu correctional facility commenting on Ndi Umunyarwanda

While Rwanda is preparing for the 20th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi inmates at the the Rusizi correctional facility have gladly embraced the ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ (I’m a Rwandan) programme.

The step follows a recent visit by the parliamentary commission for Unity and justice at the correctional facility and discussed with the inmates about the initiative.

According to Edouard Bamporiki (MP) who was in the commission team, the prisoners have to play their part in promoting the Ndi Umunyarwanda initiative as a campaign to rebuild Rwanda.

Edouard Bamporiki reminded the prisoners in correctional services of the impacts of the 1994 genocide to all Rwandans.

“We do not have to leave our bad history as inheritance to our children but we need to create a new era for them.” Said the MP
