Religious organisations urged to follow the law

Religious organisations urged to follow the law Though they do a lot of beneficial activities, faith-based organisations have been advised to abide by the new law from Rwanda Governance Board (RGB).

Sheikh Saleh Habimana, the RGB’s head of NGOs, faith–based organisations and political parties, said that if faith–based organisations do not march their laws with that of RGB, they might be excluded.

He explains that these organisations were operating under law No 20/2000 that was replaced by No6/2012; which does not allow faith-based organisations to receive contribution from offertories or criminals.

Also, the new law does not allow the organisations to engage in activities that create insecurity and to avoid accepting money from political candidates or campaigning for them.

Sheikh Habimana asserts that religious leaders should strive to protect the security of the Rwandans and their freedom.
