Elisa Rwagatore a murder suspect

Police in Bugesera District has arrested a man, who has been on the run after he allegedly murdered his wife.

Elisa Rwagatore 31, went missing after allegedly killing his wife, Appoline Mukantagengwa on January 5 at their home in Ntongwe Sector in Ruhango District.

He was arrested on January 27 in Ruhuha Sector Bihari Cell in Bugesera where he is currently being held.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Rwagatore killed his wife after the deceased accused him of marrying second wife and abandoning his responsibilities. He allegedly killed his wife using a machete.

Destin Ngedahayo, the Executive secretary of Ntongwe sector said the suspect could have been tempted to kill the wife after the latter refused to give in some of their harvested crops to the new wife.

In a related development, another man in Muhanga District was arrested for allegedly killing his 95-year old grandmother, over family conflicts.

Evaliste Minani, a resident of Sholi cell in Cyeza sector is suspected to have killed Josepha Izabiriza using a machete. The body was taken to Kabgayi hospital while the suspect is detained at Nyamabuye Police station.

Supt Herbert Gashagaza, the police Spokesperson Southern Region condemned the act. He said that though there is a step taken in preventing family conflicts, though there are some few people who still have ill ideas, and called for further exchange of information to prevent them before executing their inhuman plans.

“Rwandans should learn to value human life and when problems arise, they should seek justice from authorities,” Gashagaza said.
He urged Rwandans to always report domestic conflicts before they result into bloody acts.

If convicted those suspects could face a life sentences with special provisions as stipulated in article 146 of the penal code.
