Land disputes on increase- Transparency International

Clemence Nyinawabatesi, the coordinator of Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) in Kayonza district

Most of the problems brought to Transparency International Rwanda are land related, Clemence Nyinawabatesi; the coordinator of ALAC (Advocacy and Legal Advice Center)-Kayonza district has remarked.

ALAC coordinator reveals that the cause of many land cases is the fact that many cases are not concluded on time according to the research made by Transparency International Rwanda in Kayonza district.

Sometimes, the judge gets a letter from the court indicating that a particular case cannot be concluded because of a certain person. In this case, Transparency International Rwanda advocates on behalf of the complainant for the case to be concluded.

For up to 7 months Transparency International Rwanda has worked in Kayonza, it has worked over 200 residents problems of which over 40 are about land disputes, explains Nyinawabatesi.

She adds that most of the problems this project handled were solved through advocacy.

The coordinator urges residents who have cases of such a kind to seek advice from Transparency International Rwanda on how they can be solved.

Transparency International Rwanda (TI-Rw) is a legally recognized NGO, established in 2004 with the mission to contribute in the fight against corruption and promoting good governance through enhancing integrity in the Rwandan society.
