Rwanda : UN commend Rwanda role and efforts for peace and stability
The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peace building Support, Judy Cheng-Hopkins, has commended Rwanda defence forces for their role in promoting peace in the world.
Hopkins made the statement on October 5, during her official visit to Rwanda, after meeting with Rwanda’s defence minister General James Kabarebe.
The UN official was in the country to learn from the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has developed into a professional force and its mechanism in peacekeeping efforts in many countries.
“I am here to personally witness how the Rwandan forces have managed to achieve these goals, while in other places it seems like there has been a failure; and in this case discuss and find ways to work together” Hopkins said.
She also hailed the Rwanda forces for their efforts in stopping the 1994 Genocide against the Ethnic Tutsi, and said that other countries like Southern Sudan can learn from this experience.
Brig. General Charles Rudakubana, said that the both the Minister of Defence and the UN delegate had a fruitful discussion on other activities of the Rwandan forces in and outside the country especially in supporting residents.
