Rwanda | Kirehe: contributing to Development through Mediation, best was forward
Mediators and all people in charge of solving people’s problems in Kirehe district had one day training on the role of women mediators in solving people’s problems and land conflict resolutions on the 19th.Sept.2012.
Sylvester Uwitonze who is in charge of good governance in Kirehe district thanked Réseaux des Citoyens RCN/ Justice et démocratie for their support in training these mediators and asked the trainees to follow on the law and resolve conflicts instead of sending the affected people into courts of law before giving it their best.
Emmanuel Kabalisa a worker in RCN/Justice et Démocratie said that mediators have a difficult task as their act as catalyst in good well being of people. He explained that mediating is the best way to development as it provides peace and work towards their development.
It was agreed upon that women play a big role in conflict resolutions though most of them still feel that their resolutions won’t be valued just like those of their men counterparts and they were asked to be confident as their role is needed and very important.
In this training, it was found out that women are usually denied their rights on the families properties especially land and mediators agreed on making sure that women get to know their rights to fight for them.
This training was attended by cells executive secretary, cells’ and sectors’ mediators, Workers of MAJ (Maison d’Acces à la Justice), people in charge of good governance, and many others that work in Justice.
