Rwanda : Somali President meets Kagame
Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed arrived in the Rwandan capital of Kigali on July 5, afternoon for an official visit during which he is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Paul Kagame.
At Kigali International Airport, Ahmed was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Louise Mushikiwabo.
His visit is part of a regional tour, which also took him to Sudan and Burundi as the Horn of Africa nation – whose capital Mogadishu and its suburbs are currently enjoying relative calm after two decades of unrest – prepares general elections in August.
Rwanda has previously trained troops for the Somali Transitional Federal Government, while Burundi is the second largest contributor of peacekeepers under the Africa Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Rwanda’s foreign minister, Mushikwabo, said that the two presidents discussed about the political situation in his country considering that Somalia will be holding presidential elections next month.
