The United States ambassador to the DR Congo, James Entwistle, told the Congolese authorities that it is government duty to destroy the Movement of March 23 (M23)rebels , who have been responsible for the insurgencies with the country and region.

Entwistle made the remarks in a statement issued on June 7 in Washington and said that U.S. position clearly backs the Congolese government and its partners to destroy the M23 rebels.

“We support efforts made by the Congolese government and its partners against the M23.. You are right to destroy these rebels, “he said.

The clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the rebels have caused displacement of thousands into neighbouring countries including Uganda and Rwanda.

The numbers of refugees has continued to increase across the regional borders and the humanitarian organizations have sounded an alarm on the impact of the atrocities caused by the rebels.

Rwanda has however, quickly responded to the safety needs of the Congolese refugees as they flock in big numbers. These refugees have been relocated from the Nkamira Transit Centre, in Rubavu district, western province to the newly constructed Kigeme camp in the southern province.

Despite the being in a more peaceful environment, the displaced Congolese nationals have also demanded their government to take action of the rebel groups so that they can return home as soon as possible.
