The impounded Cannabis

Police in Nyarugenge district on Thursday afternoon intercepted two suspects and seized an estimated 10 kilograms of cannabis destined for Kigali.

The arrest took place at a Police roadblock in gitikiyoni. According to Police sources, the suspects tried to conceal the drugs in small sachets hidden and tied across their bodies and in a bag.

The suspects, David Gashugi 21, and Alfred Niyitegeka 25, who were using public means, are currently being held at Mageragere Police Station.

They both admitted to have been transporting narcotics from Goma and Ruhengeri respectively to Gisozi in Gasabo district.

Police is on the hunt for other accomplices as investigations continue. The move to come down hard on narcotics suppliers is already paying off as drug rings continue to be dismantled.

Police Spokesperson Superintendent Theos Badege warned those involved in narcotics business that they continue to do so at their own risk as Police, local authorities and the public are committed to uproot drugs in the country.

“We monitor all entry points through which cannabis is smuggled into the country. We shall not tire to combat drug use and trafficking”, Badege said to  Uburenganzira .

He urged all those involved in the crime to stop the practice without delay.
