Rwanda : People should work with the police for better law enforcement

Submitted by on June 20, 2012 – 11:39 amNo Comment

Rwanda | People should workThe National Police of Rwanda (RNP) is always calling upon people to work together and stop crimes though reporting suspects instead of avenging for themselves.

According to  local people however,  when they report suspects to the police, the police sets them free without charges especially idlers and bandits who cause insecurities in the areas they live in and they say that handing these people over to the police without punishing them is a mistake.

This was said by people who were found flagging and beating up a person who stole from Ngororero market. Though they requested their identity to be kept anonymous, they said that they decided to take this thief to a quite place and punish him themselves and if necessary hand him over to the police so that when he is released later, he will have learnt a lesson.

This kind of people punishing for themselves whoever offends them makes people lose a lot especially those who make accidents with vehicles and ran away without waiting to save those who might be trapped or who was hit or run over in fear of being flogged or killed by the angry mob.

This was the case of the incident in Kabaya sector where a man hit another and got trapped under the car but in fear of the angry residents rushed to the police to report himself for 2Km journey without realizing that the trapped man is still under the car of which they realized when it was too late at the police station.

The police always ask the resident to corroborate with them and with all security agencies to get hold of and to punish criminals and to help those in trouble and if not, many people will lose their lives in the process.
