Rwanda : Rwanda national police ready to combat GBV
The Rwanda national Police have vowed to eliminate Gender based Violence.
This was said on Sunday, in an RNP live discussion that took place on Rwanda Television. The talk show focused on Gender Based Violence.
ACP Dr. Wilson Rubanzana, the Director of Medical Services in the national police revealed that gender based violence does not only violate Human rights but also retards the economic development of the country adding that females are the most impacted population .
“Statistics from the National police bureau that handles gender based violence cases (Isange One Stop Center) indicates that 93 per cent cases related to GBV filed in 2011 were all for women among which 65 per cent were females below 18 years”. Said ACP Rubanzana.
Dr. Rubanzana reiterated that among the main causes of GBV and home violence, drugs, alcoholism and family issues over triumph the rest.
Dr Rubanzana urged local authorities, the civil society and citizens to work as a team in curbing down Gender Based Violence.
The Director of the GBV Directorate at the Rwanda National Police, Morris Muligo emphasised that RNP will not tolerate GBV at all. He however called upon Rwandans to spearhead the war against Gender Based Violence.
